College acceptance begins with research, application, meeting deadlines and turning in all forms.  We would like to make the  college application process streamlined.  Here are some steps to college application to keep you on track:
1) Visit some colleges or do virtual tours junior/senior year
2)  Take the ACT or SAT in the spring or summer of your junior year and have your scores sent to the college of your choice
2)  Apply to the college of your choice (Texas state schools apply online at: www.applytexas.org) beginning August 1 of  the senior year.  Apply for private universities at:  www.commonapp.org
3)  Order a transcript to be sent to your college with Mrs. Enloe in the counseling office. Make sure it includes your graduation plan.
4)  Check your email.  Use the same email account and remember the password.  Colleges sometimes email you tasks to complete, accounts to set up online or your acceptance letter!
5)  Create your college account when they send you the link.  Once you have a college account they will tell you of any tasks that are incomplete.  Check in your account frequently for updates.  Submit any forms that are necessary (shot record, dorm application etc)
6)  Notify Mrs. Porter when you have been accepted to college!  We are excited for you and want to share your good news.
7) Apply for federal aid.  You cannot receive scholarships unless you apply for federal aid.  (FAFSA)  FAFSA application opens this year on October 1.  The site to apply for federal aid is:  https://fafsa.ed.gov/  The deadline to apply for this for Texas colleges is March 15.  Be aware that there are some sites out there that will offer to help you set up this account and charge money.  The application is free.  Please contact Mrs. Porter if you have questions.
