Seniors:
By now many of you have done the following:
1) Taken the ACT or SAT and received your scores (Study tips for SAT attached)
www.act.org
www.collegeboard.org
2) Gone to applytexas.org to apply to a Texas state college (private universities use other sites for application)
If you used a fee waiver to take the SAT then you have fee waivers in your account that you can use to waive the college application fee
3) Applied for all scholarships that you qualify for https://goo.gl/daxK5z
The next step in getting funding for school will be to fill out your federal aid application. This application opens on January 1. All students who will use any type of scholarship or grant will have to have an account at https://fafsa.ed.gov/ You are not allowed to use a scholarship if you don't have an account. You can make an account and begin filling out your parents' tax information for 2015. You can use their 2014 tax return until they file their 2015 one. Then you will need to go in and update your account with the new information. You can make an account now and receive your PIN (Personal identification number) You will use your PIN each time you log in to your account.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
If you are planning on attending a 2 year college or community college. You can still apply for scholarships. Community colleges have automatic acceptance for admittance. They will test you to see if you test college ready (You can be exempt from the test if you have already scored college ready on your SAT or ACT). You could be placed in regular college courses or remedial classes depending on your scores. More information on being college ready soon. . . .
Please let me know when you have been accepted to a college. I am keeping this information. Let me know if you need help with any of the above steps.
